Today we had a workshop with Matt where we learned how to edit a Music Video.
To start editing a Music Video we were reminded of how to drag the rushes out of the project window which is on the bottom left on the screen onto the timeline and then view the cutting process on the video screen linked to the timeline which is displayed just above it.
Then he taught us a simple process we should follow step by step when we edit our music video to be efficient with our time.
1. Cut the performance together first- refers particularly to music videos with a band since the instrumental performance is a key aspect of their persona and selling point.
2. Do the narrative cut second- go through the performance cut and break it up by dropping in cuts of the storyline. For us this was particularly relevant as the storyline and performances coexist but are drastically different, our narrative is simple yet we can get a lot out of it and therefore we can integrate the material easily without worrying about the video being too long winded and dull.
3. Do the effects work after the video is cut together- Matt said that we most likely will not be needing a lot effects but perhaps some text is useful.
4. Finally, colour the image if need be. It was mentioned that we should not make the mistake of colour correcting the rushes beforehand, as a lot of footage may not be used. To be efficient therefore this should come at the end of the process.
